A 16-year-old bicyclist hit by a pickup truck was catapulted into the air and landed on her head, leaving a blood stain in the middle of Highway 162 near Willows, California.
Officials at the scene told the Orland Press-Register that the bicycle accident occurred shortly after 3:30 p.m., when Vivianna Hernandez swerved slightly into the path of a 2004 gray Chevrolet Silverado, which hit her. The impact left a dent in the truck, California Highway Patrol Officer Josh Ascherman said.
Willows Fire Department emergency worker Steve Molnar said Hernandez had cuts and scrapes on her hands, head and ear. She was disoriented, confused and did not remember what happened. She also kept asking the same question over and over.
Confusion, disorientation and amnesia are classic symptoms of concussion, a type of traumatic brain injury, according to the Mayo Clinic.
Hernandez was airlifted to Enloe Medical Center in Chico. No further information about her condition was available on Wednesday.
