A 20-year-old man was arrested Tuesday in Fairfield after a drunk driving accident that resulted in all four of his passengers being hospitalized. Three of them suffered major injuries.

•   Five people, all under age 21, were traveling in a speeding car. The driver was drunk and crashed the car into a tree at 80 mph.

•   All four passengers were hospitalized, three with major injuries. One of them suffered severe head injuries and was airlifted via helicopter to a Level II trauma center.

•   The driver was cleared by an emergency room doctor and then arrested on felony drunk driving charges.

The solo-vehicle accident occurred at 1:19 p.m., according to a report in the Vacaville Reporter.

California Highway Patrol Sgt. Jason Hekker said Fairfield resident Victor Alde was driving about 80 mph in a 65 mph zone when he crashed his 2008 Dodge Charger into a tree on Ramsey Road, off Interstate 680.

Alde and four friends had been drinking at a friend’s home. They had driven to a gas station on Lopes Road and were returning back to their friend’s house when the accident happened, Hekker said. Alde was speeding on a straight stretch of Ramsey Road when his car suddenly veered off the road near Gold Hill Road.

The car plowed through nearly 100 feet of fencing before it crashed head-on into a tree.

There were four passengers in the car, all of them airfield residents.  Sukhpreet Singh, age 20, was sitting in the middle of the back seat and was not wearing a seat belt. He was thrown into the front seat and then through the windshield. He suffered major head injuries and was airlifted via helicopter to John Muir Medical Center, a Level II trauma center in Walnut Creek.

Michael Valdueza and Timothy Beaver, both age 20, also were sitting in the back seat. Valdueza suffered major injuries to his face and chest. Beaver suffered major hip injuries and lacerations on his hands. Both victims were taken by ground ambulance to North Bay Medical Center in Fairfield.

Christopher Valdueza, age 19,  was sitting in the front seat with Alde. He suffered back and neck injuries that Hekker described as moderate. He also was taken by round ambulance to North Bay Medical Center.

CHP officers took Alde to North Bay Medical Center to be examined by a doctor. Alde was cleared and released to police custody. He was then arrested and booked into Solano County Jail. He was charged with felony driving under the influence resulting in major injury, Hekker said.

A reckless driver caused a chain-reaction car accident Monday on Interstate 80 in Vacaville. It resulted in major injuries to a mother and her two children.

•   Several motorists called 911 to report that a reckless driver was reaching speeds over 100 mph on the freeway.

•   Moments later, the driver rear-ended a car and caused a chain-reaction accident involving four vehicles.

•   One of the vehicles was a minivan that flipped over and landed on its roof.

The minivan driver suffered critical head injuries. Her two teenage children also were seriously injured.

Vacaville Car Accident AttorneysThe freeway crash occurred at about 8:20 p.m., according to an article in the Vacaville Reporter.

California Highway Patrol officer Julie Saraiva said witnesses called 911 right before the crash to report that 36-year-old Fredy Herrera of San Leandro was driving his black 2004 Acura recklessly on westbound I-80 near Vacaville. They said he was speeding up to 120 mph.

Just before the Interstate 505 onramp, Herrera rear-ended a silver Honda CR-V driven by Greyson Lanzarotta of Santa Cruz. The impact sent the CR-V out of control. It eventually crashed into a guard rail.

One of the two vehicles crashed into a blue Dodge minivan driven by 42-year-old Kelly Myers. The impact force the minivan into a vehicle that was parked in a Caltrans construction area in the far-left lane, Saraiva said. The minivan flipped over and landed on its roof, while the other vehicle was slammed into a guard rail.

Myers, whose city of residence was not released, suffered severe head injuries and was airlifted to U.C. Davis Medical Center in Sacramento. She remains in critical condition, the Reporter stated in a later update.

Her 14-year-old son and 15-year-old daughter, whose names were not released because they are minors, both suffered moderate injuries and were taken to VacaValley Hospital to be treated. The extent of their injuries was not released, but authorities said one may have suffered a broken jaw.

Lanzarotta sustained minor injuries. He was treated at the scene. Herrera said he was not hurt in the accident.

The accident is still under investigation.

California Accident Lawyers | Bad Things Happen When Cars Spook Horses

California Accident Lawyers

Even in a state with a fast freeway lifestyle, occasional headlines remind us that accidents still happen when cars spook horses. This past week there were two horse tales in the media, one in Hollywood and the other in rural Willits.

•   Former “Desperate Housewives” star Nicollette Sheridan, an experienced rider, was thrown from her horse when a passing car honked loudly and spooked the animal.

•  Sheridan was tossed head-first into a fence. She was taken to an area hospital with broken bones in her hand.

•   In Willits, a pickup truck hit a horse and rider on a rural road.

•   The rider’s leg and ankle were injured; the horse was so badly hurt it had to be euthanized.

The Hollywood tale involves former “Desperate Housewives” star Nicollette Sheridan, who recently was thrown off her horse after it got spooked by a loud car honk.

According to the Daily Mail, Sheridan was riding her horse bareback on her San Fernando Valley estate when a car drove by and honked its horn. That frightened the horse, who bucked and tossed Sheridan, an experienced equestrian, head-first into a fence.

The report did not say whether Sheridan suffered a head injury, but she was taken to West Hills Hospital, where it was confirmed that she had broken bones in her hand. Shortly thereafter, paparazzi snapped photos of her wearing a bright red cast (see photo at left).

Meanwhile, up in Willits, a pickup truck sideswiped a horse and rider on Hearst Willits Road, according to a report in the Willits News.

The California Highway Patrol said 18-year-old Willits resident Joseph Mendoza was driving a Ford pickup truck westbound about one-half mile from the intersection with Valley Road when the accident happened, a minute before 6 p.m.

Mendoza said he didn’t see 60-year-old Cassandra Jackson riding her horse the same direction. The pickup truck hit the horse, causing serious injuries to its hind leg. Jackson suffered contusions to her left leg and ankle. She was transported to Frank R. Howard Memorial Hospital to be treated.

The horse had to be euthanized, the CHP said.

San Francisco Accident Lawyers | Teen Driver Arrested in Fatal DUI Crash

Monday, September 20th, 2010

duicrashnovatoA 16-year-old high school student was arrested Friday afternoon on felony drunk driving charges after a car accident that killed one teen and seriously injured three others in Novato, California.

Both alcohol and speeding were probable factors in the fatal crash, which occurred at about 11:50 a.m., according to KTVU News.

The California Highway Patrol said the 16-year-old driver was traveling west on Novato Boulevard, west of San Marin Drive, with for passengers in his car when he lost control of his 1990 BMW while speeding around a curve.

According to the CHP, the BMW spun around 180 degrees, crossed a yellow line and slammed into a 2005 Kenworth big-rig hauling a full load of cattle. The force of impact pushed the BMW into an adjacent field, the CHP said. The car came to rest south of Novato Boulevard, facing east.

A 15-year-old passenger was declared dead at the scene, the Novato Fire District confirmed. Two 17-year-old passengers who had been ejected from the BMW were taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. One was treated for head injuries, including a concussion and amnesia. The other was in critical condition but the exact nature of the injuries was not released. Paramedics transported the teen driver and a third 17-year-old passenger to Marin General Hospital to be treated for their injuries. The driver sustained cervical and pelvic fractures, and the 17-year-old suffered a head injury.

The truck driver, 36-year-old Ken Smith of Idaho, was not injured. He helped paramedics pull the severely injured teens out of the vehicle.

California Accident Lawyers | MBTA Escalator Crushes Santa Monica Girl’s Foot

A California family’s vacation was ruined when their 8-year-old daughter’s foot was crushed in a Metropolitan Boston Transit Authority (MBTA) escalator accident.

The family was returning to their hotel Monday after a fun day in the city’s North End, but when they took the escalator down to the train, the girl’s plastic Croc shoe got tangled in the escalator. Her father ran down to try to stop the escalator, but the emergency “kill” switch did not work, according to a New England Cable News (NECN) report. An MBTA attendant also pounded on the switch, but the escalator would not stop. Her foot was crushed.

“The blood vessels and the nerves on the inside were cut…we could see the bone protruding from the side,” said her  father, Peter Kerndt, who is a doctor. He said the wound was gaping and full of filthy grease from the escalator.

The girl was taken to the hospital to be treated for serious injuries. She and her family were relieved to learn that her big toe would not have to be amputated. She is expected to recover.

Dr. Kerndt blames both the faulty escalator kill switch and the plastic Crocs his daughter was wearing. In fact, according to the NECN report, of 17 serious foot injuries sustained on escalator during a two-year period, 13 involved people wearing that type of plastic shoes.

“It’s not hard enough to protect a toe, but it’s not slippery enough to be pulled out,” Dr. Kerdt said. He believes the shoes played a role in his daughter’s accident but he is outraged that the emergency kill switch did not work. He feels the escalator is unsafe, but the MBTA insists that parents are responsible for their children’s safety.
