Two teens were killed in a high-speed car accident Friday night in Stockton. Police said the teens were traveling 100 mph and may have been drag racing.

•   A newly licensed 17-year-old girl and a 15-year-old boy were driving a BMW 100 mph on a Stockton highway when the girl lost control of the vehicle.

•   The BMW spun out, hopped a median, went airborne, flew over two other vehicles, crashed into a wall, flipped over the wall, and plunged into a dry creek bed. Both teens were killed instantly.

•   Police are trying to determine if the teens were racing another vehicle. If they were, the driver of the other vehicle could be charged with vehicular manslaughter.

Stockton Car Accident LawyersThe deadly accident occurred at about 7:45 p.m., according to a KCRA News report.

California Highway Patrol spokesman Angel Arceo said 17-year-old St. Mary’s High School student Amanda Shiheiber was driving a BMW south on West Lane, north of East Morada Lane when the accident occurred. Fifteen-year-old Bear Creek High School student Shamar Barbery was riding in the car with her.

Arceo said that Shiheiber’s vehicle was traveling at about 100 miles an hour when she attempted to change lanes and lost control. The BMW started spinning across both southbound lanes of the highway. When the car hit and then crossed over the median, it went airborne and literally flew over a northbound vehicle. Then the BMW crashed into a concrete wall, flipped over it, and landed in a dry creek bed.

Both teens died instantly, Arceo said.

Investigators are still trying to determine if the BMW was involved in a street race, but they do not have evidence to prove that another vehicle was involved. Friends told ABC News Shiheiber would not have been involved in a street race. Officers say if they do find evidence that another car was racing with Shiheiber, the driver of that car could face charges.

“If it was racing and there was another vehicle involved, (the driver of) that other vehicle could be charged with vehicular manslaughter,” Arceo said.

The investigation is ongoing.

Long Beach Injury Lawyers | Three Killed in Illegal Street Race With Stolen Car

Three people were killed early Sunday morning in what police believe was an illegal street race involving a stolen vehicle in Long Beach, California.

The accident occurred just after midnight, according to the Long Beach Press-Telegram. A black 2003 Ford Mustang driven by 18-year-old Jesus Heredia Calixto and a stolen green 1997 Ford Taurus driven by a 17-year-old boy were speeding — apparently racing — eastbound on Ocean Boulevard, Long Beach Police Department spokeswoman Lisa Massacani said.

The two cars collided near 55th Place, causing the Mustang to spin out of control and crash into a huge stone sign marking the entrance to Long Beach Peninsula. The force of impact threw all three passengers out of the Mustang.

Calixto died at the scene, along with two of his passengers — 32-year-old Candice Ann Bustamante and another woman whose name was not released pending notification of her family. The third passenger, a 19-year-old boy, suffered life-threatening injuries and was still in critical condition on Monday.

The driver of the stolen Taurus and his 17-year-old passenger allegedly fled the scene on foot but were caught by police and immediately arrested. Authorities did not release their names because they are minors.

Local residents who witnessed the aftermath of the accident said the two boys ran away from the scene; one of them sat on the front porch of a nearby apartment complex and was heard saying over and over: “It’s bad. It’s bad. It’s bad.”

Police said one of the boys was found at a nearby 7-Eleven, where he was calling his parents.

People who live near the scene of the grisly crash were horrified, but not surprised. They say illegal street racing is common there. One of them, Lisa Christiansen, has lived there for 22 years and said she often hears cars racing on her street.

“Something like this was inevitable,” she said.

According to the Press-Telegram, residents want the city to install speed bumps to deter racing on their street.

Meanwhile, the accident remains under investigation and the Long Beach Police Department urges anyone with information about it to call Accident Investigations Detail Detective Dave Lauro at 562-570-7355.

Two young men in their 20s suffered serious injuries Monday afternoon in an illegal street race accident on Interstate 5 near downtown San Diego. One of the victim’s legs appeared to have been severed below his knees, a California Highway Patrol officer told Channel 6 News.

The two men were both riding in a Ford Mustang and were racing two other cars on the Interstate near the Highway 94 on-ramp. The other two cars turned off I-5 and onto Highway 94, but the Mustang was not able to negotiate the turn and crashed the Mustang into the guardrail at around 2 p.m., according to a Channel 10 News report. The car flipped, ejected both of the young men, and landed upside down.

Both of the men — the driver and the passenger — were taken to the hospital. Authorities closed the on-ramp for several hours while they investigated the accident and cleared the debris. The CHP did not have descriptions of the other two cars.

Illegal street racing causes about 100 fatalities in California each year, according to the state Office of Traffic Safety. It has been called an “epidemic” in San Diego.
